Eleena gather her things and headed to her tent. Tomorrow was going to be a long day and she'd need her rest. Perhaps the next chance she had some free time she'd ask one of the fir'bolg for some help with her archery. She sighed and settled down for the night.

Oleg wandered into the human camp, quickly revealing himself to the guards and announcing himself as an ally. He didn't have much to live for anymore, no fellow dwarves nearby...he might as well offer his help to the humans. In his experience, they always needed explosions.

Ten Motion noticed the new Dwarf, he didn't look new. He's probably been in and out of the war, fighting in various places all his life now.

"Excuse me, Dwarf," he said in a deep, booming voice, "There are a several of your people in this company. For this fifty men, we have four or five demolitionists. They are usually examining their supplies."

"Excellent," Oleg said. "I haven't been my own kind in months. If you would direct me to them, I would be pleased." He glanced over at the newbies, green all of them. He felt vaguely sorry for them - they would all be dead or injured in a matter of days. But that was war.

Eleena, who sitting with the other conscripts, gave Oleg a slight nod as he glanced over them all, passing the same judgment as the other vets it seemed, they were all going to die. She looked back down at her plate and continued eating breakfast without a word. She was content to listen to the lads who were scaring each other with the stories they'd heard about the battlefield.

Ten Motion took Oleg to the other Dwarves, Narvi, Etri, and Ini. Appearently, Oin had died two weeks ago. Ten Motion had not heard, and he didn't spend much time with the Dwarves.

Just then, a fir'Bolg hurled a strangled Ghol in their midst. "A scout!" he shouted, his bow ready with an arrow, and the other fourteen fir'Bolg in their unit also at the ready. Ten Motion scowled and gripped his shovel tightly. This was bad.

The captain, a soldier in a white tunic as opposed to the colored ones the rest of the soldiers had, began issuing orders and demanding the conscripts get ready for an engagement. The smell of rotting flesh began to permeate the air.

Oleg hissed and quickly prepared for battles, pulling out various bombs and Dwarvish grenades. Ghols. Those monsters would not live to see another day. He would not rest until every last one was blown off the face of the earth.

Eleena had just finished her breakfast and hurried to her tent to to prepare for the battle that would reach them within minutes. She hurriedly pullled on her chain mail, strung her bow, swung bow and quiver and on back, fastened her sword to her hip, pick up her shield and donned her helm. Eleena then headed out to meet the others, taking a deep breath. This was the moment of truth, their first battle, and she knew, most of them would not survive.

The first thing that Ten Motion always noticed about this war was always how quiet the undead were. The Ghols always mocked and screamed in their hideous language, but the undead were quiet.

Except Wights. They were quiet until they stabbed themselves to let loose those monstrous fumes and toxins in their bloated forms. That scream spelled death for most. And he heard it.

He turned away from the blast, the men nearest him, veterans and conscripts both tried to scream, only as that thin, purplish slime within the Wights activated its poison.

It was called Death Fever. It wasn't actually fatal, most of the time. It always resulted in immediate paralysis to those who touched it. The screams ended as the men could no longer force air through their lungs. Ten Motion's Heron Guard training rendered him immune to it, but he had to move quickly to save the men who were not ripped apart by the ground rippling explosion.

To his left a pack of Ghols had fallen upon the conscripts, and the captain was directing to archers to fire on a Fetch. Ten Motion spied the Dwarves hurling their explosives at a band of Thrall lumbering toward the slaughter.

As the battle began, a pack of about four Ghols descended upon her and her fellow conscripts. It took Eleena only minutes to ditch her shield. With her over-large mail weighing her down already, she needed the speed advantage more than she needed its protection. She and a few others felled one, though not without casualties. The vets were right, many of them would not survive. As soon as the first fell, Eleena was already moving towards the next closest. The only way to live was to fight, quick and hard.

Oleg threw several explosives, hurling one right after the other on top of the ghols, which promptly exploded. That was how he did battle - safe from the sidelines, where there was less of a chance he would be reached by the enemy. Of course, if they did reach him, he had a dagger waiting.

A Thrall brought itself upon the Dwarves. Ini lost his head promptly.

The fir'Bolg downed the Fetch before it could do any damage, but they immediately had to turn their attentions to the second batch of Thrall that had flanked the Dwarves.

Tne Motion crushed a mandrake root over a man's head, intoned the ancient chant of his brothers, and the eerie blue light illuminated the man for the briefest moment as his wounds miraculously mended. A stray Ghol tried to lop off his head, and he crushed it's skull in one of his large hands.

Another Ghol hurled a fleshy sack from a Wight, one of their explosive organs somehow still intact, into the fir'Bolg. Several of the archers were blown to slimy bits, and most of the rest were stricken with the Death Fever, helpless as Thrall moved up and hacked them to bits. The captain was fighting two Thrall himself.

Ten Motion cursed silently and slammed the head of his shovel against the head of a Thrall repeatedly. Eventually the magics holding it together failed and the body came apart. Then a Ghol threw an axe blade at him, slicing deep into his shoulder. He cried out but decapitated the fiend as it lunged at him with a heavy swing of his shovel.

Oleg swiftly set several traps and then retreated a safe distance, patiently bringing the ghols to him.

Several approached. Several exploded promptly as they walked into the traps. Oleg smiled. He did love explosions.

The conscripts had taken care of the four Ghol only to have eight more coming up from the other side. Eleena cried out and the conscripts turned to face the new threat. A few of the slower ones were not so lucky as the Ghol decapitated them. The conscripts numbers seemed to dwindle by the second. Eleena downed a ghol o n her own, taking a wound to the shoulder and just as she was about to help the others with another she saw a group of Thrall loping unmatched up to the helpless Fir'bolg who had been sturck by Death Fever. She didn't think, she acted.

"Cover me," she said to the closest of her fellow conscripts as she fell back from the Ghol and and unslung her bow. She took only two quick deep breathes to slow her heart rate, there was no time. In a matter of seconds, she'd loosed three shots, two of which had hit their mark.

Ten Motion healed himself and then several of the other men. He had two roots left now.

They fell upon the Thrall attacking the Dwarves and hacked each one to small pieces. The two remaining Dwarves returned the favor by blowing the last oncoming wave of Thrall to smoking bits.

Ten Motion noticed that Oleg had killed most of the Ghols, and the surviving conscripts had saved six of the fir'Bolg. The captain of the unit, however, was almost dead.

The Journeyman strode toward the man quickly, but was too late. A group of Soulless, hidden in the trees, hurled a volley of javelins, killing the captain and wounding several of the conscripts. Ten Motion cursed again, and then rushed to the conscripts who were fighting the straggling Thrall.

A few of them were down, screaming in agony. The Soulless' poison was more painful than deadly, but the pain was worse than any he'd imagined possible until he'd felt their bite himself.
