Without removing the Web first, he reached into her pack and rummaged through her things.

He piled a variety maps, papers, and such, and looked through them while she was locked up in his spell still. He also ate some of her rations, well, anything half-decent in them.

After he was done, he piled the papers, map included, and burned them to cinders with Wizard's Fire. Well, actually, there were less than cinders left, but notwithstanding, they were gone.

"Alright, you get to move around," he raised his hand and she could move. But now she was without her weapon and her pack.

Kara's eyes burned, if he'd look he'd see all her hatred there. Now she had no pack, no rations. She was stuck with him or so he thought. But now she was free, his biggest mistake. After a minute or two of stretching and moving around, she was only two steps from the wizard. In the blink of an eye, she'd drawn the belt knife she carried and lunged at him.

Lexino hesitated and was about to move, but changed his mind at the last minute. This wasn't his fight and those two, as interesting as they were, were complete and total strangers.

His hand swept across faster than she probably thought he could move, and she was slapped across the face by an unseen force, carried a good yard over. His hand then lifted and she was raised into the air about a foot.

"What is it with you and not behaving?" he said in a annoyed voice. The pain running through is veins in his blood due to her power was ignored again, and he looked at the knife clenched in her fist. He walked up to her, leaving her up in the air, and snatched it out of her hand.

He ran his index finger and thumb over the blade once, twice, and three times and then released her and tossed her knife back. It was duller than a stone now.

"No more mistakes on your part, I guarantee that."

Kara struggled against the spell that held her in the air. She turned more and more of his power against him,but it did her no good.

Her eyes locked with his and she snarled,"If you kill me they'll just send more after you."

"And if I kill you, I'll kill them. I know Panis doesn't have thousands of Mord-Sith at his command. I doubt he has more than a hundred, probably no more than a few dozen," he gauged her face, but it was expressionless. He rolled his eyes at her.

"Come out, lad," he called out. He felt where the stranger was, and he was within earshot. "She won't hurt you."

Lexino winced, but there was little point in protesting. He stepped out of the bushes, and looked back and forth between the man and the girl, feeling rather uncomfortable.

"How did you know I was there?" he asked.

Zedd smiled easily at him, "I'm a Wizard, boy. And she is a venomous little creature called a Mord-Sith, but she's harmless right now."

He could help watch her without him having to use magic on her constantly. Excellent.

"Come, lad, I need help getting her to a Confessor. Holding her up with air or keeping her in Wizard's Webs all day gets tiresome."

Confessor? Wizard Web? Wizard? Mord Sith? He stood there, stunned and immensely confused.

What have I gotten myself into? he thought. There didn't seem to be any point in refusing the old man. He suspected, suddenly, that the old man wouldn't take no for an answer.

Kara struggled harder against the spell. She smirked as the wizard asked the boy for help. It would be much easier to escape with the boy watching her than being held in one of zed's spells.

"You have a bow, young man? Keep an arrow notched on her all day. I'll weave a Web on her over the night. If she so much as blinks wrong, I want you to shoot to kill," he said in a very casual voice. He glanced over at her.

"You try to do anything to him, and you will wish you were back wherever Panis got you from," Zedd said simply. "I will kill you if you so much as touch a hair that fell off his head."

"I'll believe that when I see it," she scoffed.

He refused to hurt her and yet he expected her to believe he would kill her.

Zedd was annoyed enough with her, that he lit her braid on fire. He did not care for the braided hair of the Mord-Sith anyway, so he counted it an improvement on her part.

The fire was set to burn until all her hair was gone, so her scalp would be in rare condition. He did not think that it would be a particular bother to her, pain being her lifestyle, but it did give the young man a round, red target.

"Miranda," he said, "Hildra, Jenna, Christa," he was listing off Mord-Sith that had been at a battle near here. "Who do you think killed them, Kara? Who do you think stopped those thousand D'Haran soldiers from slaughtering that town, with only three hundred militia at his back? Don't prove Wizard's First Rule again. It would be in your best interest."

Kara froze for a second. When she'd been little and her parents hadn't been home, the house had caught fire. She'd almost died from it. She'd developed a healthy respected for fire. She snapped herself out of that recollection and jerked in the air, trying to put it out. Zed, could plainly see the look on her face. A normal campfire she could deal with,but not this. This was one of her few fears.
