Ziva paused for a moment, to argue only to be dragged along behind Raiab. She jerked her arm away and followed behind him as they pushed through the crowd and eventually made it to the throne room. Why did she have to be sent with the wizard? |

The Baron was a fat, short man with wide eyes and a look of bewilderment when a Wizard came into his throne room. "What do I owe the honor to...?" he said hesitantly. He'd never dealt with much other than trade matters, before.
Arik ran through the streets, crying out for people to defend themselves, to not eat any food that had come into the city recently, and to be wary of those sick. He brought several of the infected people down as he ran, cutting them to pieces mercilessly.
Soon, there was bloody chaos throughout the city. |

Raiab quickly filled the baron in on the matters. "Let no more food be distrubted," he said. "Not until I check for the plague. Send your soldiers out as well - the people who are infected will be rampaging through your streets, they are better off dead." _________________ A path taken is paths forsaken.

"The entire town of Greensboro has already fallen. The plague is spread by food and drink."
She did not mention that she alone was left. She figured it was better that way. |

The Baron seemed utterly dismayed by this news and did exactly as advised.
In the town, the noninfected were being sheparded toward the manor, and the guards were trying to secure the gates shut. Arik was in the midst of the fighting. He needed to figure this out quickly.
The plague had steadily moved toward this area.
It had evolved on the move.
And now it was in force here.
Experiment, target, test. There was something in this city they had desperately wanted, he realized. Whoever was behind this was after something here! |

After his meeting with the Baron, Raiab took command of the situation and had the Baron dispatch a group of soldiers to escort him to the granaries. He needed to see how much food was infected with the virus and how much food needed to be destroyed. There was no doubt about it -he was going to have to return to the Crystal Keep afterwards. The Wizards would need to be warned. He left Ziva behind with orders that she not be let out of the palace grounds. He saw no reason for her to wander a plague ridden city. _________________ A path taken is paths forsaken.

Ziva grumbled at the orders to stay in the manor with the villagers who were not infected. She hated being told what to do, not that she'd listen to anyone, especially a wizard.
"I am not a child," she growled, to no one in particular.
She immediately decided that she was getting out of there. Getting over the wall without being seen was easier than she thought. Now she stalked through the shadows of the city, eyes and ears open for any attacking infected. |

The baron and his troops escorted the Wizard to the granaries. "Whatever you must do, Wizard, do it!"
Arik was fighting for his life while trying to deduce what might be of value that a Wizard with such enormous magical talent might want from the city. All he could determine was something was in the library. However, he was on the opposite side of town from the library.
A man in black robes with a black-bladed sword walked through the decay toward the old library. He noticed the girl on the other side, but ignored her. He was here to collect his prize, nothing more. |

"Guard me," Raiab ordered, and focused on the barrels of grain. He picked the stench out immediately. He was appaled, over half of the barrels. He summoned Fire and they caught, smoke poured into the sky. _________________ A path taken is paths forsaken.

Ziva noticed the man heading towards the library. She had a feeling he was up to something. Her head hurt again, but she was confident that she no longer has the plague and attributed it to all the running she'd done. She paused for a moment, leaning against a wall to rest, then slid inside through a side door. Silent as a mouse she watched the man from the shadows. |

"Are you done?" the baron asked worriedly. The Wizard had destroyed a lot of food.
Arik managed to lead the guards to beat off the attack. Now, he had to get to the library. Then he noticed the smoke. The Wizard had gotten to the food, good.
The black robed man walked quickly through the shelves of old books, scrolls, papers. He seemed very confident he could find what he wanted. |

"Yes," Raiab said, wiping sweat from his brow. "The rest of this food is untainted - " he stopped, sensing something. There was a strong sense of decay, of darkness of...of evil, coming from the library. The source, whatever had started the plague, or someone who knew something was there.
"The library!" he said. He summoned the wind, and sent a message to Arik, it would whisper his discovery in the man's ear. Hopefully, he would get there as soon as he could. _________________ A path taken is paths forsaken.

Ziva was watching the man more than her footing as she slinked along after him. She didn't realize the cat was there until she'd already stepped on his tail. He yowled angrily awakening from his nap and hissed at her loudly. Ziva managed not to swear as she ducked her head behind the shelf, hand on sword hilt. |

The crackle of lightning barely missed Ziva's head. The man was another Wizard. He drew his sword and it seemed to hum unnaturally as he held it. He looked over and then began to tear the library apart searching with magic. For whatever it was he wanted, and the spy.
Arik raced for the library. He hoped to reach it in time. |

Raiab reached the library and cursed, seeing Ziva there. That idiot girl! Was she incapable of following orders? No matter. She would have to be dealt with later. There was lightening blasting the library apart. He summoned a whirlwind towards the source. They needed the man alive. _________________ A path taken is paths forsaken.
