His fence had been more than happy to take the articles off his hands. Now, Garrett needed to find out which one of his contacts would have the best information on this.

The Keepers were an obvious choice, but if they had this book, they wouldn't need him to do anything for them. So even though it made sense to ask, he knew they wouldn't have it.

The Hammerites had some limited glyph powers, as did the Pagans. He had a couple of Hammerite contacts, but none in the Pagan, so he might as well start there. However, where this could lead could very well be ugly. So he might as well suit up for a long one. As such, he needed an obscene amount of cash to do so.

Callahan Manor had the Lady out for the night on a party. She'd taken a few of her men as a bodyguard, leaving their home a little understaffed. A good as target as any.

'Tali' had changed into some more 'fitting' attire. Though with her mother out, she much preferred more boyish clothes. If she could get away with a tunic, she would. She did refuse to wear anything she couldn't move freely enough in to fight.

She sighed and sprawled across her bed, it had been a long day.

Garrett slipped in through a back window on the second floor. Anything that looked like it might be worth its weight in coin was taken. A couple of unconscious guards later and he began work in earnest.

Valuable vase set. Once he pried the jewels out, check.

Silverware made of silver. Check.

A few of the good Lady's most expensive jewelry pieces, check. Especially the sets.

When he was working his way out, he came across a bedroom that appeared to have its resident sleeping and the door open. Slip out the window and call it a night.

Tali practically leapt from the bed as somone entered the room unbidden.

"Who's there?" she said, eyes sweeping the room and landing on garret.

"You," she growled. Unfortunately she now stood between him the window that led to freedom.

"I see my reputation precedes me," he said flatly. He could've been out of here nice and clean, but no, she had to be awake. He fished out his dagger and threw a flash bomb at her, closing his eyes quickly and nailing his weapon into her headboard.

While she was still blinking, he swiped a nice necklace and a goblet she apparently used earlier that night.

"You can have this as a keepsake, you're paying for my new one."

Why did he leave the dagger? He needed somewhere to stash the extra loot.

Tali stumbled backwards, tripping as the flash bomb went off. she saw him reaching for the dagger before being blinded by the light.

"Guards!!" She called, throwing up her arms to shield her face. She yelled loud enough for a few of the conscious guards below to hear. Not that he couldn't evade them, if she could.

He'd be gone before her sight returned.

Out the window and across the rooftops.

When he finally settled down, he actually regretted not raiding the kitchen. Free food was always a good thing.

But he managed to pawn off all the goods before sunup, but went back home instead of buying new tools. It was late, and he wanted shut eye. Besides, the landlord would be thrilled to get the next six months rent in advance.

garret was long gone before the guards arrived. The attributed the bruise from her earlier fight to thief. she neither confirmed nor denied that claim. she could no more tell them she'd snuck out than pigs could fly. she simply refused to described the incident in too much detail. She was relaxing and the guards had not done their duty, someone had gotten into her room. That was all her father needed to know.

She sat still long enough for the bruise to be taken care of, the brute from earlier had clipped her a good one. Nothing she wouldn't live through, barely a scratch to her,but it was a big deal in the noble world and garret had at least given her an excuse for the injury and for the missing sword.

She crawled into bed, exhausted. He father would no doubt double the guard, making it more difficult to get out over the next few days. she'd deal with that then. For now, she just wanted rest.

Santiago left the inn after his short conversation with Garret and found a better, more comfortable and safer inn up in a different part of the city. His new...ally would no doubt have no trouble finding him.

That night, unfortunately, yielded no leads. None of his contacts had the slightest idea where such a book might be found, which was irritating, but surmountable. A little digging could bring up a lot. But where to start?

He found where the mage was staying, nice part of town, safer. More well lit.

He still got into the bedroom with nary a glance in his general direction.

"Any other information for me? My contacts turned up naught."

Santiago ran his hands through his hair and shook his head. "I'm afraid not, at least nothing tangible. My visions have led me to believe that the book is in a tower somewhere - but what tower and the sort of security around it make it hard to know. I do not know this city as well as I would like..."

"There are a lot of towers in this City," Garrett grumbled. "Was it even in this City? Was the tower in a state of disrepair? Do you have anything, a cardinal direction, the weather, anything, to point me anywhere?"

He glanced over at a set of papers laid out. One of them was his wanted poster. "Doing homework?"

Tali easily blended with the crowd here as she searched for Garret. She was actually on the lookout for the man he'd been with yesterday at the tavern. Her information indicated that he was staying at this inn. She walked casually through the halls until she passed the room that supposedly belonged to him. She paused to fuss with her cloak and listen for voices in the room.

Santiago flushed slightly. "I beg your pardon, but it seems only natural that I find something else about you. However, I'm not about to turn you in, not since you've been one of the few willing to help me out here and your skills will help me out a lot. As for the tower itself...well, I only saw it as the city was being destroyed. It was somewhere in the center, and was falling to pieces like everything else. The sky was fiery and I swear it was raining blood..."

"That could range from the Pagans to a Mechanist plot gone wrong to the Hammerites just having a bad day. The center of the city, though, is a river. Are you sure it was this City?" Garrett growled.

"Maybe you mages are going to go insane and kill us all," he hissed bitterly. There was the possibility there was a tower down there. But if there was, only one organization would know. Trouble being, the Keepers were more secretive than ever, after the Hag incident where Glyph magic stopped working for a time. Loss of their compound seemed to have made them even more paranoid.
