Tali tilted her head slightly to hear better, as she recognized Garret's voice. The topic, however gave her pause.

The city falling apart? she thought,what the heck?

She froze as she accidentally dropped the key she had lifted earlier. Why must she be clumsy now? If garret didn't know she was there before, he certainly did now.

Garrett's eyes flickered, "There's someone outside the door. Get ready."

He probably needed to bolt. But if some nefarious organization was after the book, word of him asking around about one like it probably got around. That was the problem with his contacts, they, like him, typically worked for the profit.

He slipped his blackjack out and dimmed the lights. Then he motioned for Santiago to open the door.

Santiago pulled out his wand and opened the door, lifting it above his head for whatever or whoever was on the other side.

She swiped the key back up, slipping it into her pocket, as she hear movement within the room. She knew she was there,but it was too late for her to bolt. She couldn't evade Garret anyhow. She drew the he hood of her cloak and slid around the corner gripping a dagger in each hand. She's just whipped the tail of her cloak around the corner when Santiago pulled the door open. She held her breath, waiting.

Garrett peaked out when Santiago didn't shoot someone full of icicles. He didn't hear the sounds of fleeing, though.

"Turn the carpet into ice or something. I want to see who was listening in."

Santiago obeyed, pointing his wand at the floor. There was a flash of blue light and a crackling sound as the carpet changed into a thick coat of translucent ice, allowing them to get a glimpse of the person spying on him. He raised an eyebrow at the girl.

"Anyone you know?"

"I think I robbed her family last night," Garrett said passively. "Probably thought she could get revenge. Props to ya, kid. You found me at least."

He turned to Santiago, "We should probably be more discrete from now on."

Tali wiggled her feet, uselessly for a moment as she stared coldly at Garret. She said nothing, as she stood there, trapped like an animal. She wasn't scared, Garret had a reputation. He was not a murderer.

"Props to ya kid"

Was that a complement? That surprised her more than anything.

She said nothing though, the last thing she wanted was them to know exactly how much she heard.

Santiago followed wordlessly, curious to know who this girl was. He blinked, another vision coming to pass. He saw her, standing there, staring at the book of glyphs - a knife clenched in one hand, her eyes wide and hypnotized. He blinked, the vision passed.

He grabbed Garrett's arm. "She connected somehow," he said.

"What?! TAFFER!" Garrett swore loud enough to wake everyone in the inn. He then swung his blackjack across her head and knocked her out.

"Take her with us. We've got to figure out what's going on. And you're going to interpret your visions or whatever more clearly. Tell me what you see, and I'm going to write it down. I NEED to know what I'm looking for."

Tali looked at Santiago, confused, as garret swore loudly.

"What are you-" she saw the blackjack coming and went to move her feet only to remember she was stuck. He knocked her out.

"Taffing taffer taffin taffing taffer!" Garrett did naught be chain together curses as they walked, mostly mumbling under his breath, but occasionally loud enough for Santiago to hear.

He did NOT, under ANY circumstances, wanted to rely on some kid to somehow save his own skin. And the mage was vaguely unhelpful in a lot of ways. Maybe if the mage did a little looking around himself he might learn something.

Santiago shook his head. He would have been amused, had the situation not been so dire. Obviously, Garrett was not amused by this. Nor was he for that matter. The vision had been ambigious - the girl could either use the book of glyphs to save the world. Or else destroy it.

When they got to Garrett's apartment in the South Quarter, he blindfolded and tied up the girl.

"Now, tell me everything. And while you're at it, why don't you tell me who you are and what you hope to achieve, and how you intend to do it."

Garrett was in a very bad mood. And worried. He liked living. Current conditions seemed to be attempting a cease of living for him.
