(jump right in once you've read the background/posted a character)

Evec walked down the street, shoulders slightly hunched as he went to get himself a cup of coffee. He had just gotten off a particuarly long and unpleasent shift at the hospital, already overloaded with war victims. He desperately needed sleep, and he was heading back to his apartment.

He shook his head. Three burn victims - probably from Fire-Magic - several gunshot wounds. The war was taking its toll on everyone. He found the coffee shop, went inside and ordered, staring at the television, which was on the news. It was droning on about the war, the demon, and the sudden changes in strategy the military had been forced to make and the various politics.

"The war on the eastern front has died down somewhat. Only a handful of skirmishes remain, but military leaders caution viligancance. They warn that this may be a new strategy on the part on the demon..."

He snorted and drank his coffee. It would still result in death in the end, more misery and more pain.

Tanwen slipped into a coffee shop and took a seat glancing around at the other customers. They all looked a little worse for wear. She ordered and and began watching the the TV, while she waited for her coffee. There was no good news, hadn't been in a while. The news was always pessimistic.

Evec glanced around at the various customers in the shop - of a variety of ages and races, sitting, eating, talking. Ackorian coffee shops were popular places to discuss news, current events and politics. Almost always you came with a group. He didn't, because he was stopping through. There was also a teenage girl who didn't as well, sitting alone in the corner.

Someone brought Tanwen her coffee and she looked up. She saw an older man, looking at her and quickly looked down at her drink. Shy as she was, she didn't like strangers.

Evec turned his attention back to the news, listening to the anchor drone on about smaller events - now that the important news over the war had been given. But it shadowed everything, and most articles were related to it. Ackor hadn't fallen yet, but it was only a matter of time until it would. The news was all bad.

But he refused to give up hope.

Tanwen finished her coffee off quickly and got up to leave. she still needed a place to stay for the night. She was walking toward the door when she triped and tumbled right into the man who'd been looking at her earlier.

"Whoa, are you okay?" Evec asked. "I wouldn't want to see you get hurt or something."

There was a brief flurry of attention over the girl who had tripped, but quickly faded away - there was no lasting harm done after all.

He entered in formal attire. He definitely stood out in this crowd. His hair was almost bleach-white, and his skin WAS bleach-white. His lips were an unpleasant and unsettling shade of crimson, reminiscent of blood. His purple suit was wrinkled, his bright yellow undershirt was dirty, and some of the purple buttons were missing. His shoes were scuffed and mud-caked, although they looked like they were designer-made. His oddly colored hair was a haphazard mess, and he cracked an ungodly smile that hinted at mischief and mayhem. He walked up to the counter and winked at one of the workers.

"Get me some green tea, toots! And I want it strong, understand?"

"Yes," she said, uncomfortable. "Your order is number-"

"Just call me by name, kiddo! Joe Kerr!" he cracked out some very loud, very maniacal laughter and took a seat near the teenager and doctor-mage.

"fine." She squeaked.

It was Tanwen's automatic response, she blushed embarrassed that she had tripped.

"I'm really sorry" she said, as she pulled away from him.

She stood on her left foot, and rotated her right ankle in a circle. Sprained, she'd live.

Evec immediately glanced towards the new-comer, very much alarmed. The man didn't look normal, and certainly didn't talk normal. Evec felt concerned for him, and slightly worried - perhaps he had been cracked by the war. Perhaps...

There were an infinate number of perhaps. He was plainly screwed up in the head. Evec hesitated, thinking that he should act, but decided to wait first. The figure was so out of place, he couldn't keep his eyes off of him. Nor, it seemed, could most of the customers in the shop.

He hopped up when his... name was called, took a sip, then spied the injured girl and the doctor.

"OH GOODNESS!" he exclaimed, throwing his tea all over the floor and tossing the plastic cup into the trash (albeit that was completely coincidence it wound up in the trash), he dashed over to them and made a complete scene.

"The poor girl's hurt!" his voice took a moaning tone for a moment, then became very loud and demanding, "Is there a doctor here! Someone tend to her!" His head darted around and he was glaring all of a sudden, looking for a doctor.

Orion was already down on the floor before Joseph had finished speaking, examining Tanwen's injury.

"Its not too bad, just a sprain," he said. "I'll take you to the hospital." he stared at the man. He was flamboyant, over-the-top...and clearly crazy, but his heart was in the right place at least. He'd already caused more of a scene than Evec would have liked...

"Ah, that's nice to know doc!" he was abruptly cheery again. "Anyway, I think I'm going to come with you!"

He didn't know why. He just needed somewhere to be at the moment.
