Lisa blushed, "I need to change..."

Luckily the damage to her clothing was worse than the damage to her, and while not necessarily inappropriate it was not exactly....well she was embarrassed to say the least.

"I need to get out of here," he said quickly. He didn't have much in the way of belongings, just his weapons, the clothes on his back, and that sword.

"Hate to almost die and run, but frankly, you people are insane for living on the edges of a haunted forest!" he started for the door.

"You can't go dressed like that," she said.

He was almost back in his underclothes again. She draped a sheet from the bed over his shoulders. She really did not want him to go.

"I'm sorry," he said quickly, "But I'd rather go outside stark naked than stay around here!"

With that the sky abruptly grew dark, but only for a moment. A chill descended, but not a physical one. A sort of spiritual cold when one realizes in their soul that something truly malevolent is about.

"This is really, really bad."

As if things couldn't get worse, a horn sounded. Soldiers from the King. And here he was, in a rebel settlement. The EreA itself was out to kill him.

Lisa froze at the sound and swore under her breath the hair on the back of her neck standing on end.

"I'm sorry..."

She was out the door down the stairs in a second. She changed fast as she could, as if she'd let soldiers see her in that state. As she emerged from the side door back into the inn she could hear the soldiers approaching. Her rifle was slung over her shoulder in a somewhat casual manner. If they weren't here to fight she wouldn't antagonize them,but if they started anything she would protect these people.

Bright uniforms dirty, faced weary and terrified, and their unit far from full strength, Richard realized that the forest attacked them as well.

"Citizens," the senior officer started, "The men of the King's Army require respite from the... unusual difficulties encountered here."

Richard fingered one of his guns. He might be able to drop a few of them before they know what happened. Of course, he could also just leave. Leaving meant living. And he liked living.

One of the rebels stood, taking the initiative. It was best to avoid trouble in this case.

"You have our hospitality. So long as you cause no trouble, you are welcome. We are all human, after all."

That was something the people here lived by. We are all human. In the end when everyone is weak and weary, loyalist or revolutionist, we are all human.

Lisa watched silently, apprehensive as to the officer's response.

In the end, the men were too tired and too scared themselves to cause trouble. "Very well, men, we stay here for now," the officer announced. Richard relaxed. More guns. More hands. More people to fight whatever else that forest might decide to hurl at them.

He needed to find a girl or something. The stress was really starting to mess with his senses, and any relief would be welcome.

"This place is insane," he muttered to himself.

The shiver down his spine, the odd contrast of the cold, damp air and her warm breath on his ear, and the sudden sound made him fall forward.

"Why did you do that!?" he said as he hauled himself up. "You're going to get someone hurt sneaking up on people like that..." he sighed, considered asking her about possible locations of certain services, then decided she would neither know where they were and doubted this community had such places, at least openly.

"You... gah..." he just sighed again. He needed new clothes.

She laughed at his response, humor was a good relief with all that had happened today. It was just so much to have that simple laugh was just so...she couldn't describe it. Then her expression softened.

"Lets get you some clothes"

She turned to lead him through the side door to the house and waited for him to follow her.

He got up and walked, a thought passed him by, although doubting chances of success...

What was the worst that cold really happen? Him be kicked out? He was already planning on leaving.

"You know, we could always just lose what's left of these clothes..."

Lisa blushed, this time she did not have a comeback. They were alone after all and she did like him. A second later she had a comeback.

"Not afraid my father will burst in and threaten you?" She smiled.

She'd never felt this way about a man before...

Encouragement, even of the timid variety, surprised him. "Well, you said he wouldn't. Anyway, if your father was around, I'd assumed he'd have popped up by now, you know, with all the life-threatening mumbo jumbo we had not too long ago..."

"I'm old enough to make my own decisions," she said.

She wanted this, she decided, she wanted him. Now noticing how close he was, and basically in underclothes again. He was attractive, a merc did have to keep fit.
