Avina sighed, she wasn't sure what she should and shouldn't tell him.
"Fine, stay here. But I'm going...Thank you for your hospitality. Thank your father for me, if you would."
She turned to the dwarf, "Let me gather my things." |

"Well, be quick about it. I would like to be off before too much longer," the Dwarf grunted and stood outside the house, eager to be out of the Elven Quarter. _________________ Delicious tea, or deadly poison?

Caranthir raised one eyebrow as he left. "You are a very interesting sort of human. You barely know that Dwarf or anything about him - you didn't even let him explain what the adventure was, and you just blindly accepted it. You are what the Ents of myth would call 'hasty'." _________________ A path taken is paths forsaken.

"What concern is it of yours, Elf? You declined to accompany the lass on my adventure, if you had any concern of it you ought to have gone with her," the Dwarf said in a tone that suggested he thought very little of whatever Caranthir's advice was. _________________ Delicious tea, or deadly poison?

"I could change my mind, when I find out, but I have a feeling I won't. I prefer Hasty to living my short locking myself in my room. I'll be lucky to live to your age, even if I wasn't 'hasty'."
She turned and went to the guestroom.
Avina gathered her things, quickly. As she descended the stairs, she produced the extra bow and quiver that Caranthir had leant her.
"I guess you'll want this back." |

"No. You may keep them," Caranthir said. "Consider them a token from me and an unofficial reward for winning the contest. As for me, there will be plenty of time if I should decide to go on an adventure. I will live for many long ages yet under the son. By Elf standards, I am young, little more than a child." _________________ A path taken is paths forsaken.

"They think it gives them leave to talk about themselves for all those long ages of the world as well," Farin derided scornfully. "Come along, lass. Gloin shan't be kept waiting long." _________________ Delicious tea, or deadly poison?

"Generally, Dwarves give themselves away with constant noise because they can't be quiet," Carinthir said. "It is Elves - and Hobbits, I am told - that are stealthy. Were you perhaps, raised by Elves or the Little Folk?" he said. If the Dwarf was going to insult him then - well, he'd develop a sharp tongue right back. _________________ A path taken is paths forsaken.

"Thanks you. I hope our paths will meet again Caranthir."
Avina followed Farin outside. |

"Pah, the little bird chirps loudly in its gilded cage, but won't come out and play," he waved off the Elf as they walked off. The city was dying down now, but not wholly. Some would carry on with the festivities until the sun kissed the sky again. They continued until they came upon a very important looking manor house near town hall.
Farin knocked on the door - much more courteously than he had Caranthir's home's door. _________________ Delicious tea, or deadly poison?

Caranthir closed the door and returned to his book as the sun sank lower in the night sky, as he pondered the day's events. The Dwarf actually galled him and, to his surprise, he found that he actually did care about what happened to Avina.
After all, what if the Dwarf turned out to be a rascal and was leading her into a trap? No. She was tough. She could handle it, if he was. Though...
He shook off his doubts and turned his attention back to the book, but a longing stirred in his heart to see the wild places of the deep woods, the rugged mountains, the rivers, the ancient places he'd read about in his books. He stood, pacing back and forth, as he considered what to do. _________________ A path taken is paths forsaken.
