It was her time to raise an eyebrow.
"indeed. I can't believe the bugger got me..."
She looked at her should for a moment and sighed. She hadn't brought any first aid supplied with her, that she could recall seeing in her bag. She made do for now, fashioning a rough bandage out of some spare clothing in her bag. |

Rob kicked the thing's corpse a little. "I think someone said something to me about goblins living in these parts. You know anything about-" And then he gawked. She had pointy ears. But she lacked the angular features of a pure elf.
"-that..."
Amnesiac half-elf woman. This can't be good. _________________ Delicious tea, or deadly poison?

"No. But I wouldn't be surprised."
She thought he was acting kind of strange, and then realized he was staring.
She pulled her hood back up over her ears quickly. She cursed under her breath. She at least could remember that humans did not like half-elves....at least not the ones shed run into, that she could remember. which wasn't saying much. Most of it was a big blank. |

Look, Rob, don't expect the worst. Plenty of half-elves are liked just fine. Uncle Cierio the Cleric was a half-elf, and Dad and friends liked him just find.
Course, Cierio was a spellcaster. Of course dad liked him...
Not the point, not the point. Just because she's got memory issues doesn't mean trauma. Maybe she's just crazy.
All the while, he kept staring. _________________ Delicious tea, or deadly poison?

She got very nervous when he didn't stop staring. He was nice and all, but...yeah...she looked at him for a moment and then snatched her bag and bolted out into downpour. |

"Well, now the quirky girl ran out into the rain..."
He looked back down at the dead wolf.
Then he looked out into the rain.
Back to the wolf.
To the rain.
Wolf.
Rain.
And he sat by the fire and opted to remain dry. _________________ Delicious tea, or deadly poison?

The rain pounded down harder than ever. The light continued to hover and bob somewhere off to Riza's left, as pale and cold as ever. It seemed to challenge her, daring her to follow it further into the woods. More of the lights appeared, though weaker and fainter than the first. None of them seemed to exert any kind of influence. They were apparently waiting to see what she would do. _________________ A path taken is paths forsaken.

The storm didn't bother her. She took shelter under a large tree, far enough to know that he hadn't followed her. She sat and pulled her knees to her chest, with her sword in one hand. She observed the weird lights cautiously.
Didn't he say something about goblins...? |

"Hey! She left some food!"
And then there were munching noises. And it was good. _________________ Delicious tea, or deadly poison?

"You would abandon the girl to her fate," a mysterious female voice whispered to Rob, coming from nowhere and everywhere all at the same time. It was not a question, but a statement.
***
The shimmering spheres floated closer, and took shape, revealing themselves to be the pale, misty ghosts of goblins, all with various wounds - arrows sticking out of heads, swords embedded in chests. All of them fatal. All of the goblins were watching Riza now, surrounding her. _________________ A path taken is paths forsaken.

Riza jumped to her feet, adjusting her grip on the sword, but did not attack. She nervously watch the ghost like creatures to see what they would do.
Well, there's the goblins...what a day. |

"Look, voice. She's an adult. A capable adult. She made a choice. I made a choice. She ran from me. It is generally not helpful to chase people who are running from you unless you're faster than them and have a good reason. Newsflash. I'm neither. We met literally half an hour ago. I don't even know what her 'fate' is."
He took another bite and then a drink from his flask.
"And I don't know if you're a sign that I'm going crazy, some sort of weird spirit, or a god, but in any and all of the previous cases, please leave me alone. I'm not the spiritual or religious type, and would rather not go crazy." _________________ Delicious tea, or deadly poison?

"Justifying yourself to me?" the voice asked quietly. "You needn't. I am merely a servant of beings far greater, Rob Redblade. You are a good man and try to do good in the world. Then know this and we will see how willing to take action: there are enemies in these woods, stirring fell things best left slumbering and forgotten. The villages around these woods - and eventually the nations around it - will crumble if something is not done to stop them and soon."
Then he was alone. The voice and presence was gone.

The goblins crowded around her, speaking but they couldn't be understood. They touched her, driving ghost weapons that did no damage through her body. The world began to shimmer. _________________ A path taken is paths forsaken.

"I hate it when gods remove your claim to ignorance. It really messes with the free will clause in my existence, you know that?" he said to no one in particular.
Nevertheless, he got up and started looking for signs of the girl. If something bad was out there, he had to do something about it. _________________ Delicious tea, or deadly poison?

The ghosts surrounded Riza, touching her. The landscape became pale and shimmery and Riza felt herself grow faint. Then suddenly, she heard a loud yell, and came to her senses. The goblins scattered in every direction. Rob lowered his blade, breathing hard. _________________ A path taken is paths forsaken.
