Eleena sighed as they marched through friendly territory.

"I wonder what Ten Motion Leaping Skull is doing?" She mused aloud.

She sincerely hope that he was all right.

"I do not know," Havard replied. He was not a coward, but again, he was very apprehensive about dealing in matters of such powerful sorcery. He did not want to imagine what sorts of things would be done to them if the Watcher found them.

Hours passed, Alric did not grow much more coherent. He continued to babble about the Head in the most inane ways, and his sentences did not always seem to follow logical word order. Eventually, when the Companions set up camp for the night, Alric collapsed into the sand by the fire, breathing disturbingly shallow.

"What's wrong with him, you suppose?" ne'Sho asked.

"He's been in the sun and left to rot," Turan replied. "His mind is not whole."

Balin spat and Tirgisis seemed to be in consensus with the others.

Ten Motion looked at him more closely. He didn't respond to Healing, so whatever it was, it was not a physical injury. Perhaps Alric had been driven insane by the Deceiver.

"Balor," the Avatara randomly announced. "Balor, Connacht. Balor, Connacht. Cycle. The Head knows the truth, but it speaks only in lies. Lies are the truth. Our history is a lie!"

The others dismissed Alric's rambling and went to sleep.

"The sooner this is over, the happier I will be," Oleg said.

"Agreed," she said, looking at the landscape around them.

They were getting very close to the mountains themselves. The foothills were rocky, full of cliffs and choke points. It all could make for very hectic battlegrounds. Their small group passed four abreast in places, it got so narrow.

A few days passed traversing this bleak landscape. At first, they had no problem with campfires, but Rabican's encampment came and went, and then they saw signs that the Deceiver did have a garrison in the old town.

"Odd that we did not notice sooner. Silvermines isn't any larger than a score or so of houses and an old market square," Havard muttered. "The Fallen taking interest in such a place after everyone has left or died is unusual."

"Not much we can do now...." Eleena said to the other two," How do you supposed we find the arm with them there?"

"Hmm," Oleg said. "This does present a bit of a problem, doesn't it? What we need is a distraction of some sort. Something to lure them away..."

(I'm so so so so so sorry I wasn't on to RP with you guys last night! The stupid Internet gave out here about noon yesterday and they haven't gotten it fixed yet. I had to trudge all the way up a very steep hill in the snow to get to a hotspot so I could get online.)

One of the older men shook his head, "There must be two hundred garrisoned in that town. They wouldn't empty it to let us pass through, they'd send a token patrol out."

Havard growled a little, "We need to get into those mines, though!"

One of the fir'Bolg studied the area closely, "The enemy seems to move in patrols through the perimeter of the town. A small group might be able to sneak into town after nightfall, run in and grab the arm, and sneak out through the graveyard behind it. The rest of us could move around the area and meet up with them at the large hill off into the distance."

Another veteran spoke up, "I don't like splitting up. We're too few, and it would be even worse in the dark."

The Champions journey through the Desert was marked with hot pursuit now. The Deceiver discovered Alric had been rescued and there were tremendous efforts to stop them. These efforts had led to them being driven into a canyon.

"We lack the equipment to scale these," Balin said ruefully. "You know what that means."

"We hack our way through the enemy," Turan said.

"If they don't hack us to pieces first," Tirgisis replied.

ne'Sho spent his time looking out ahead. "There is a sizable force massed at the end of the canyon. If we somehow make it to them, we will not make it out alive."

Ten Motion sat and listened. They were trapped. A day behind them an army nearly a thousand strong was in pursuit. Just ahead there were too many to be fought. "Bleak thoughts. We have to try, though," he looked back at Alric. The Avatara had followed them, but he still seemed sun-touched. He rambled frequently about artifacts and heroes of ancient myth, as well as great destroyers. He also continually came back to the fact Balor was worse than any story. He was disheartening to listen too.

"There's too few of us already," Eleena agreed,"but how else do we get that arm? There aren't enough of us to fight them are there?"

Havard chuckled, "Forty against two-hundred? You want to try those odds in a pitched battle, lass?"

Eleena sighed.

"Can we get them to split up somehow? If we can thin them out then we have better odds...."

The fir'Bolg looked ahead again, "This is a garrison. They'll send a single patrol out, and if they see a force, they'll barricade up. There are Fetch in there, and I see a man in black robes there."

A Journeyman with them shook his head, "A Warlock of Scholomance. We have to be careful."

Havard huffed, "We can't just sit here the whole night!"

Eleena's eyes were pained for a minute, as she remembered that the Journeymen would've been Ten Motion had he not been gone. She snapped herself out of it by telling herself in her mind, she should prove herself to the journeymen, who might recount this later to Ten Motion at some point.

"Havard's right. We have to do something. We can't just sit here."

They sat around and tossed ideas back and forth. Attacking was out of the question, but no one wanted to split up. Only a handful of them had seen a Warlock before, and those men told of entire groups of men becoming frenzied or dazed at once, or blankets of fire that enveloped a half dozen men from a few dark words from the Black Robes.

It was largely decided that his attention should not be drawn to them.

Havard finally thrust his sword into the dirt, "Either we break into the town and find the arm, or we don't. We cannot do this without risking a confrontation."

Eleena agreed, "We have to do something. The longer we wait, the better chance that they find it before we do."
