Kara glared at zed as he spelled the ropes. She watched him set up a campfire and pull out dried rations. Her stomach let out an unbidden growl. She hadn't eaten today. She scowled, she did not expect him to feed her. Lord Rahl and his mord-sith fed their prisoners scraps if at all. She expected nothing more from these two.

Zedd tossed a piece of an apple to her, "Eat this, I won't have you falling over on us while we make our way to town!"

He flipped open a book and began to read.

Kara said nothing,but took the piece all the same. She would be helpless if she didn't eat.

"Hes from the Midlands. I'm a D'Haran."

She could not fathom somone growing up during a war and not even knowing the war was happening. She supposed that was because she'd seen was since the time she was kidnapped by Lord Rahl to become one of his assasins. She scowled.

Zedd looked over at Lexino's coloring. It was odd, different. His eyes were blue, his hair was a sandy sort of blond, but he was altogether too dark for a D'Haran. He frowned and went back to his book.

A Light Web was a hard spell, but it was also a very effective means of guaranteeing cooperation for the night. He sighed, the girl was too much a fool to even try to negotiate.

Zedd did not seem one to bargain with. He was intent on taking her to a Confessor. If the confessor so much as brushed against her she would die.

She sighed and and rolled over on her side. She was exhausted. She would get some sleep, its not like she was going anywhere, anytime soon.

Tonight when she slept, however she dreamed. The memories of her training came unbidden to her peaceful mind. She wrenched in her sleep as her body remembered the pain, the torture. There were happier memories in there somewhere,but she could not find them. She tried to force the memories away,but they did no budge. Her scream broke through the night sounds of the woods as she jerked awake, panting. The image of her father and her mother still fresh in her mind. All she knew was pain, and hate and serving Lord Rahl.

She woke Zedd up, and he scowled at her. Sleep was important.

"What is your problem, girl?" he said as he walked over to her. He'd left the Agiel by his bedroll, a good four or five yards away. He looked at her, "No harm done. Nightmare?"

He frowned at her, a Mord-Sith having nightmares. Well, he supposed that anyone who did what she did for a life would have some skeletons in the closet. He pulled out a few herbs and went back to the fire. In a matter of minutes he returned with a piping hot tea.

"This'll help you sleep. Drink," he held it to her mouth, given that her hands were bound. "And try not to scald yourself."

Kara looked into the wizards eyes for a moment. Normally she would have suspected he was trying to poison her,but this was different. She didn't know why,but she felt she could trust him. She sipped the tea he held for her, managing only to scald herself a few times.

"I....Thank you..." The words felt foreign to her, as if a foreign language gone unpracticed.

Her thoughts were racing, she'd never had nightmares about her training before, why would she have them now? Did Lord Rahl know she was being held captive? Was he trying to remind her where her loyalties lied? She dismissed the thought. Lord Rahl would simply have killed her in her sleep, wouldn't he?

"I hardly expected that," he said mostly to himself. He put a finger to her lips, she obviously burned herself drinking that. He felt the sting in his own mouth for a moment, then it was gone.

"You can do without those burns," he commented idly. "We're continuing our journey tomorrow, get some sleep."

Zedd went over to his own bedroll, and returned to sleep, thoughts of his family drifting through his mind as he did so.

Kara was puzzled by this. Why did he help her? She could not fathom why anyone could be kind to an enemy. The meaning of Mercy was beyond her. These puzzled thoughts continued as she drifted off to sleep once again, this time, it was a peaceful rest.

Zedd woke the two up before the sunrise.

"Come along, now. We have a bit of a ways to go yet, and we don't have the luxury of excess time. The same as before, don't take your eyes off her, my boy," he directed them down into less forested, more open country.

"We should make it to the first town by nightfall, if we're lucky. Maybe midday to suppertime tomorrow, if we're realistic."

Kara woke without much fuss and marched along, this time needing less encouragement from Lex's arrows or Zedds fire. She was lost in her own thoughts as she continued to try and decipher the cause of the other nights nightmare. whatever it was, she hoped it wouldn't continue. Kara would never grow used to the images of her mother, or the memory of killing her own father.

"To a town, to have her given to the law," Zedd informed him casually. He paused suddenly, and looked around, a scowl working around his face.

"Let's try to stay out of the open..."

Kara smirked,but said nothing. She wasn't sure what was bothering the wizard. She did know, that if zedd didn't like it it probably worked in her favor.
